Timeline of Chapstick

Early 1880s - Dr. Charles Browne Fleet creates first Chapstick.

1912 - Fleet sells his recipe to Lynchburg resident, John Morton for $5. Fleet sells the rights to his product because he fails to sell enough to make it worth all of his effort. John Morton and his wife start production in their kitchen.

1963 - A.H. Robbins Company buys the rights to Chapstick from Morton Manufacturing Corporation, which Morton created from his Chapstick production.

Since 1963 - Many different types of Chapstick have been created.

1971 - Four Chapstick flavored sticks were added.

1981 - Chapstick Sunblock 15 was added.

1985 - Chapstick Petroleum was added.

The current manufacturers of Chapstick is the Wyeth Corporation.
